The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the importance of support within the Iowa business community, and one corporation that has demonstrated tremendous leadership in this time of crisis is Wells Fargo – which is providing grants to nonprofit organizations, small business assistance efforts, and disaster relief funds across the state and country. Both nationally and in Iowa, Wells Fargo has received a Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) rating of “Outstanding” for its dedication to serving low- and moderate-income communities. Globally, the company has committed more than $175 million to COVID relief and $1 billion to the U.S. housing affordability crisis.

“We hope our support provides a measure of relief as we stand with both the local community as well as our global community during this challenging time,” says Region Bank President Marta Codina.

Of course, Wells Fargo’s philanthropic leadership in Iowa predates the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the company invested more than $6.8 million in grants to 32 Iowa organizations. Wells Fargo provided the lead capital campaign gift to help build Junior Achievement of Central Iowa’s JA Finance Park. The company has also created and maintained the NeighborhoodLIFT program to support sustainable homeownership and finance education.

Wells Fargo employees donate more than 200,000 volunteer hours annually to such organizations as Habitat for Humanity, Meals from the Heartland, and Junior Achievement. In September 2019, the company organized its first-ever Dedicated Day of Service – which saw 1,000 team members volunteer in Greater Des Moines alone.
